Call for volunteers: Wiki Loves Earth 2025

[edit]

Wiki Loves Earth, the photography competition themed around the natural world, gets underway in a couple of months. We've been involved previously and this year we are looking to have all four constituent countries of the UK take part.

To help with that Wikimedia UK are looking for volunteers to lead or help with the competition in England and Scotland. The Wales competition will be led by our Wales Coordinator, and we are working with Wikimedia Community Ireland on the Northern Ireland competition. We have prepared an outline of what is involved (the link is to a Google Doc - you don't need a Google account to view).

If you are interested in organising the competition, you can message the WMUK programmes team at programmes@wikimedia.org.uk Richard Nevell (WMUK) (talk) 09:46, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

British English and WP:GOCE

[edit]

If an editor were to write an article in British English or Oxford spelling, the article is not necessarily about the United Kingdom (examples include onion, orangutan, Germany, Norway, Paris, PlayStation (console), Toshiba, and Malaysia-related articles), have the WP:GOCE copyedit the article, and ask for assistance from someone knowledgeable in British English or Oxford spelling, would it be sufficient for the editor to post here to ask that person to help the GOCE? If not, what would be a better option? Z. Patterson (talk) 22:25, 2 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have an example? I would expect WP:GOCE could deal with WP:ENVAR without outside assistance. I do not know what our policy on Oxford spelling is, however. Secretlondon (talk) 12:27, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Secretlondon: A recent example is Ochaco Uraraka. Z. Patterson (talk) 14:01, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Comment - I would like to add that two members from the WP:GOCE copyedited this article, as noted in Talk:Ochaco Uraraka. Z. Patterson (talk) 14:03, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
